Child Cancer Foundation
About us!
The Child Cancer Foundation is a not for profit organisation that provides emotional, practical and financial support to kids with cancer, their families and the health professionals who care for them.
What we do
We are dedicated to helping brave kids with cancer and their families, ensuring that they never have to feel alone.
Every year on average 150 Kiwi kids are diagnosed with cancer, which means that there are heaps of children and families requiring special support and assistance. We are committed to being there for these families every step of the journey, supporting them at the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment and then as they transition back into the community. Our support services also continue for families facing the palliative stage of treatment and those dealing with the loss of a child.
We also work with health professionals to encourage further research and education ensures that every child facing cancer has the best possible chance of survival. The outcome for kids with cancer has improved a lot in recent years, now almost 80% of kids diagnosed with cancer can be successfully treated. The downside is that many kids who survive cancer may have to live with long-term complications - both physical and psychological - and so we feel it is important to help fund research into the late effects of cancer as well.
How does funrazor help?
funrazor is one of our most important fundraising campaigns of the year!
The money raised through funrazor enables us to keep families together during treatment and provide financial assistance with day-to-day things such as travel, food and accommodation. It helps to fund trained, professional family support workers to provide emotional support, advice and advocacy to the families; to fund the Beads of Courage programme in paediatric oncology centres; to support kids with cancer as they settle back into school, and to access extra educational support if need be.
funrazor also plays an important role in funding research programmes on childhood cancer and subsidising
specialist education for health professionals. This is just a glimpse of the work we do for kids with cancer and their families. funrazor and the funds you raise enable us to continue this valuable support.
How you are helping?
Shaving your head!
By shaving your lid for a brave kid, you’re helping us to raise money for our support and services for children and families affected by childhood cancer. You’re showing friends, family, workmates and the public that you are passionate about the cause and willing to lose your locks to prove it!
Sponsoring someone to shave their head!
Sponsoring someone to shave their head makes a huge difference! We need more than $6 million each year to continue our work for brave kids and families, so every cent that you give helps us to reach that mark.
Spreading the word!
We want every New Zealander to know about funrazor and the generous individuals who shave their lid to show their support. Spreading the word about funrazor is important for getting more heads to shave, for raising awareness of childhood cancer and the work of the Child Cancer Foundation.
Volunteering!
We couldn’t exist without the help of so many willing volunteers and we certainly couldn’t pull off a funrazor
event. From helping out with shaving heads, to cooking sausages on the BBQ, every bit of voluntary support we can get helps us to keep costs down and make the day heaps of fun.
